Services
Did you know that tooth decay is the number one preventable childhood disease?
Prevention begins with good dental habits, the right diet and regular visits to the dentist at a very early age.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children should have their first dental visit by age one.
The American Association of Pediatric Dentistry, and virtually then entire medical and dental establishment agree-all children should have an established "dental home" by their first birthday.
We love to educate parents and caretakers about good oral hygiene and nutrition because we want you to be able to make informed choices about your child's dental health.
Every examination includes an assessment of your child's developing teeth and any spacing/crowding of the jaw.
This assessment is vital to determine if early braces (orthodontic intervention) will be needed to prevent crowding and appearance issues as your child's teeth grow.
Sometimes such interventions at a younger age will save you money in orthodontics and painful jaw problems for your teenager later on.
Your child's teeth will be examined to determine the extent of tooth decay prior to recommending restorative treatment.
We specialize in providing dental care for children with physical, developmental, cognitive, sensory, behavioral or emotional needs.
Some children with special needs are more susceptible to tooth decay, gum disease or oral trauma.
Others require medication or diet detrimental to dental health.
Still other children have physical difficulty with effective dental habits at home.
Our team has the experience and increased awareness to provide genuine empathy and the best care for your child.
We are able to customize a preventive strategy tailored to accommodate your child.
SOME CHILDREN need to be sedated to allow for successful dental care.
This is a decision to be made with full agreement and acceptance between parent(s) or guardian(s) and Dr. Sakhi.
Once all have agreed on care involving sedation, it is vitally important that a number of instructions be followed - without exception - so that potential risks to the child are decreased.
But first, what does oral sedation involve?
SEDATIVE MEDICATION is administered in a liquid or pill form to your child upon his or her arrival to the clinic.
It is essential that you follow-up with your lactation consultant after the procedure to ensure optimal results.
It is normal for swelling to occur in the lasered areas.
This will usually go down after about a day or two.
The baby can be fussy (up to 3 days following the procedure) and may not nurse as much right away.
This is normal and will subside.
You may use Baby Acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed on the package, Ibuprofen if over 6 months old or use arnica as a natural alternative.
A small amount of spotting or bleeding is common after the procedure, especially in the first few days.
