Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected.
The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth or a crack or chip in the tooth.
In addition, a blow to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chip or cracks.
If pulp inflammation is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.
Signs of pulp damage include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration of the tooth and swelling and tenderness in the nearby gum.
No one wants to hear the words, "You need a root canal".
But keep in mind that the root canal procedure is a far better fate than a lost tooth.
With today's advanced root canal technology, the treatment is easier to endure than ever before.
At our San Jose Endodontic office, Dr. Karim Malek is dedicated to providing excellent care while maintaining high levels of personal service.
What that means for you is that we will walk you through every step of the process, keep you informed, and make sure you are comfortable and relaxed during your time in our chair.
Missing teeth are perhaps the most obvious and challenging obstacle to a beautiful smile.
If you have one or more missing teeth, San Jose Endodontist Dr. Malek can show you how dental implants can solve your problem permanently.
For tooth replacement, there simply is no solution that is more durable or more lifelike than a custom-designed dental implant.
If you have dealt with a missing tooth for years, you may be wondering why it is so important to fill that space now.
When considering a tooth replacement solution, keep in mind that dental implants are the only comprehensive solution since they address both the visible missing tooth and the missing tooth root under the gum.
When both the tooth and root are damaged, the best permanent replacement is a dental implant in conjunction with a ceramic crown.
This solution both looks and functions just like a natural tooth.
In this case, a so-called one-piece or single dental implant is used.
This means that all components are installed as a single unit, resulting in immediately full functioning teeth, shorter treatment time and minimized pain.
The course of treatment described here is one of several options available.
Consult your dentist to find out what the best solution is for you, given your specific condition.
