When Dr. Anthony Castellano is asked what he loves most about dentistry his face lights up.
Dr. Castellano grew up just outside of Tampa, Florida.
He came to Richmond almost 20 years ago with his wife Rosa where they both attended Virginia Commonwealth University.
After graduating from dental school at VCU and having their first two children here in RVA, they decided to try a life in the Green Mountains of Vermont where he became a partner in a large, progressive practice.
It was there that they added 2 more children to their family.

The best way to prevent problems with your teeth and gums is with routine dental care.
Brushing and flossing play a significant role in this dental health maintenance, as does visiting your dentist on a regular basis.
The American Dental Association recommends seeing your dentist every six months for a thorough check-up.
This will keep your teeth and gums healthy and ensure you maintain your beautiful smile.
When you go in for your checkup, your dentist will do a thorough visual inspection of your teeth and gums, looking for any beginning signs of tooth decay or gum disease.

An emergency is any situation you haven't planned for that calls for immediate action.
A dental emergency is any surprising problem involving teeth, gums or jaw.
Many of the various types and levels of dental emergencies involve pain, swelling, or bleeding - sometimes a broken or loose tooth.
The cause of the emergency could be accident or trauma; other times symptoms may have begun slowly and built up over time.
Sometimes the emergency might be obvious, such as a broken tooth from a bite into a piece of hard candy, a sports injury or a fall.

Believe it or not, a child's first trip to the dentist can be fun, painless and enjoyable.
A child does not necessarily come into this life with a fear of the dentist.
However, like the rest of us, a young person can fear the unknown.
At our office, we make a special effort to use language that is friendly and easily understood.
We know how to describe any diagnosis or treatment in a non-frightening manner.

When the soft tissue inside your teeth, containing blood vessels and nerves become inflamed or diseased, two treatment choices are available.
In days gone by, the only choice was the removal of the tooth.
Now, the tooth can often be saved with a procedure known as a root canal.
A root canal is a relatively simple procedure, usually requiring three visits to the dentist.
During a root canal, your dentist removes the diseased pulp (soft tissue inside the tooth).
The pulp area and root canal of the tooth are cleaned and sealed.
