What is a pediatric dentist? A pediatric dentist is a dentist who after four years of dental school has two to three more years of specialized residency training, including hospital training. The pediatric dentist is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The very young, preteens and teens each need different approaches to dealing with their behavior, guiding their dental growth and development, and helping them avoid future dental problems.

The pediatric dentist is best qualified to meet these needs. What does "Board Certified" mean? A Board Certified pediatric dentist is a pediatric dentist who after their residency, has chosen to take several extra examinations and have a panel from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry observe their office, patient treatment, charts, staff and paper work.

Our practice offers all aspects of state-of-the-art Pediatric Dentistry. We offer white (composite) fillings for primary and permanent teeth. We have the Biolase water laser which removes decay with minimal anesthesia for small and medium size cavities.
Services
At Uptown Pediatric Dentistry, we offer a variety of services to care for your child's mouth.
If you have any questions or would like more information about how we can care for your child's teeth and mouth, please contact us today.
The health of your child's teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of the entire body.
While routine brushing and flossing at home are necessary to keep your child's smile looking its best, visiting a dentist for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.
Your child's first visit in our office may include, (depending on his/her age) examination, cleaning, fluoride, and x-rays.
You are welcome to come with your child for all procedures and if your child wants or needs to, they may sit on your lap.
Please note - the following are words we never use in our office: shot, needle, stick, poke, yank, drill, or blood.
These words can be unnecessarily scary for young children.
We use finger nail, mosquito bite, earth quake, Mr. Whistle, Mr. Bumpy, popcorn water, tickle, wiggle, thirsty straw, and tooth ketchup.
Radiographs are a vital and necessary part of your child's dental diagnostic process.
Without them, certain dental conditions can and will be missed.
X-Rays detect much more than cavities.
For example, radiographs may be needed to survey erupting teeth, diagnose bone diseases, evaluate the results of an injury, or plan orthodontic treatment.
Radiographs allow dentists to diagnose and treat health conditions that cannot be detected during a clinical (visual) examination.
If dental problems are found and treated early, dental care is more comfortable for your child and more affordable for you.
Our office is not just concerned about your child's dental health, we are concerned about their total health.
Diets that are unhealthy for the teeth are also unhealthy for the body.
Not only do we want to prevent cavities we want to prevent childhood obesity and unhealthy lifestyles.
The mouth is the gateway to the body.
In the Bay Area we are lucky to have a wide array of fruits and vegetables to choose from year round.
Try to choose foods when they are in season and not flown in from South America.
All dental specialists begin by completing dental school and continue their education with several years' additional, specialized training.
During this training dentists gain extensive knowledge and experience in treating infants, children and adolescents.
Pediatric Dentists enjoy working with children and bring to each patient their experience in childhood development and behavior.
Because our office is geared toward young visitors, you'll find that our staff, as well as our office design, decorations and activities all work together to provide an especially friendly and comfortable environment for children.
