Dr. Gates grew up in Fresno, graduating at the top of the Bullard High School class of 2000.
He spent weekends and summers working at his father's vineyard in Madera where he learned many skills and values which can be applied to dentistry.
After high school, Dr. Gates then attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology.
While studying at Berkeley, he did research in a plant genetics laboratory.
He matriculated into dental school in 2006 at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 2010 with a DMD degree.
He spent weekends and summers working at his father's vineyard in Madera where he learned many skills and values which can be applied to dentistry.
