Newport Pediatric Dentistry: Dr. Faith Drennon DMD
Dr. Drennon and her family would like to introduce baby Mack to the Newport Pediatric Dentistry family. Dr. Drennon and her team provide specialized dental care for infants, children, adolescents, and those with special healthcare needs. Our office is built upon the foundation of creating a dental home by age 1, where we introduce our patients to a "child friendly" environment and conduct a "well baby visit".

We are committed to prevention and education, and strive to make every experience a positive one. Dr. Drennon and her team want you to be educated and informed throughout your experience in our office. We encourage questions and are excited to offer explanations about our philosophy and procedures. When you are ready to schedule your appointment, our experienced staff will be happy to assist you in any way they can.
Services
Dr. Faith Drennon grew up in Rome, Georgia.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at the University of Georgia (2001) and is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, School of Dentistry (2006).
After five years practicing General Dentistry in a private Pediatric Dental Practice, she found that working with children was her passion.
She completed a two year Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at Boston University (2013).
Dr. Drennon continues her education through her memberships to the Hinman Dental Society, ADA, Rhode Island Dental Association, AAPD, and the Northern District Dental Society.
Our office, as well as the The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a "dental home" by the child's first birthday.
Although this may seem surprisingly early, the incidence of infant and toddler tooth decay has been rising in recent years.
Tooth decay and early cavities can be exceptionally painful if they are not attended to immediately, and can also set the scene for poor oral health in later childhood.
Fluoride is an element, which has been shown to be beneficial to teeth.
However, too little or too much fluoride can be detrimental to the teeth.
Little or no fluoride will not strengthen the teeth to help them resist cavities.
Excessive fluoride ingestion by children who are unable to spit can lead to dental fluorosis, which is a chalky white to even brown discoloration of the permanent teeth.
Many children often get more fluoride than their parents realize.
Being aware of a child's potential sources of fluoride can help parents prevent the possibility of dental fluorosis.
A sealant is a clear of white plastic resin material that is applied to the pits and grooves on the back teeth.
This is where 80% of all childhood caries (cavities) are found.
The sealant acts as a barrier to food, plaque and acid, protecting these decay-prone areas of the teeth.
These areas are often difficult to access with a toothbrush.
If the pediatric dentist evaluates a child to be at high risk for developing tooth decay, he or she may recommend sealants on additional teeth with deep grooves, likely to develop decay.
For years, stainless steel crowns have been, and continue to be, the standard of care for badly decayed primary teeth.
Fortunately, with recent advances in ceramics technology many children now have another option!
Manufactured in Northern California, EZPEDO crowns were developed by two dentists out of a need to have a healthier, stronger, and more esthetic option for their own children.
Dr. Drennon has been specially trained to provide EZPEDO crowns to restore your child's smile back to its natural beauty.
