Welcome to the office of Kenneth Legunn, DMD - a Pleasantville, NY periodontist. Our office takes a patient-oriented and conservative approach to periodontal care; Dr. Legunn treats every patient as if they're a member of his family. We're proud to have been in Pleasantville for over 33 years. When it comes to your treatment plan, our primary concern is to help you keep your natural teeth -- that's Dr. Legunn's job as a periodontist.

If you are exhibiting signs of gum disease, Dr. Legunn helps minimize symptoms by non-surgically reducing pockets, or by surgically reducing pockets to create healthy gums. We also provide patient education on the best ways to care for your gums at home. In the event that you are experiencing advanced gum disease and do require extraction, Dr. Legunn can extract damaged teeth and replace them with dental implants at his office.

Our main focus is treating periodontal disease and replacing teeth with implants, when necessary. Dr. Legunn has placed thousands of implants for patients over his career.
Services
Left unchecked, the effects of gum disease can cause serious problems, such as gum recession and bone loss.
We offer periodontal root scaling and planing - a non-surgical deep cleaning treatment that targets the area below the gum line and removes build-up of harmful bacteria that causes gum disease.
Root scaling and planning is often the best first step in improving periodontal health and managing symptoms of gum disease.
Before moving forward with treatment, Dr. Legunn completes a comprehensive oral health exam, takes x-rays, and designs a treatment plan with solutions that work for you.
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the soft tissues of the mouth and the underlying jawbone which supports the teeth.
A dentist must first graduate from an accredited dental school before undertaking an additional three years of study within a periodontology residency training program, in order to qualify as a periodontist.
The primary focus of this residency training is on both surgical and non surgical management of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.
The periodontist is mainly concerned with preventing the onset of gum disease (periodontal disease), diagnosing conditions affecting the gums and jawbone, and treating gingivitis, periodontitis and bone loss.
Four out of five people have periodontal disease and don't know it!
Most people are not aware of it because the disease is usually painless in the early stages.
Not only is it the number one reason for tooth loss, research suggests that there may be a link between periodontal disease and other diseases such as, stroke, bacterial pneumonia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and increased risk during pregnancy.
Researchers are determining if inflammation and bacteria associated with periodontal disease affects these systemic diseases and conditions.
Periodontal disease is diagnosed by your dentist or dental hygienist during a periodontal examination.
This type of exam should always be part of your regular dental check-up.
A periodontal probe (small dental instrument) is gently used to measure the sulcus (pocket or space) between the tooth and the gums.
The depth of a healthy sulcus measures three millimeters or less and does not bleed.
The periodontal probe helps indicate if pockets are deeper than three millimeters.
As periodontal disease progresses, the pockets usually get deeper.
Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease.
Your dentist and dental hygienist will evaluate for periodontal disease and recommend the appropriate treatment.
Periodontal disease progresses as the sulcus (pocket or space) between the tooth and gums gets filled with bacteria, plaque, and tartar, causing irritation to the surrounding tissues.
When these irritants remain in the pocket space, they can cause damage to the gums and eventually, the bone that supports the teeth!
