Services
We tell our patients what we are doing, and do so in an honest, matter of fact way.
Children do much better with explanation followed by immediately doing what is shown to them.
They worry if too much preparation goes into an appointment.
We follow the principles of Tell/Show/Do.
The TELL phase involves an age appropriate explanation of the procedure.
The SHOW phase is used to demonstrate a procedure up to the point where the instrument is used.
The DO phase is then initiated and the treatment is performed.
D Owens, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and was born and raised in Colorado.
He graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado.
Dr. D attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Biology.
After his four years at Georgetown, he attended The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. D became interested in pediatric dentistry while working as a dental assistant in pediatric dental offices in the Lone Tree area.
The most typical sequence for children to lose their teeth starts at age 6 with the loss of the lower central incisors.
Between the age of 6 and 8 years, children will lose the front four lower teeth and front four upper teeth as well.
You may then notice a lag period during the ages of 8-10 years when your child does not lose any teeth.
Between the ages of 10-12 years, your child will experience a second phase of tooth loss where they will lose their baby canines and baby molars.
Our doctors will monitor your child's dental development at all visits and update you if your child is following the normal sequence.
Our most mild sedation option is nitrous oxide or laughing gas.
Nitrous oxide is administered through a small mask that fits over your child's nose and it is an effective way to calm anxiety.
As your child breathes through his or her nose, the gas will produce a calming feeling.
Your child will remain awake and will still be able to talk to the dentist.
We often describe the affects of nitrous oxide as the warm and fuzzy feeling a child gets when tucked away in a sleeping bag on a camping trip!
