The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) both recommend your child's first dental visit to be by the age of one.
You can help make your child's first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive.
If old enough, your child can be told that the dentist and her team will explain all procedures and answer any questions.
The less to-do regarding the visit, the better.
Our team makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to your child.

If the procedure was in the lower jaw, the teeth, lip, and surrounding tissue will be numb or asleep.
Sometimes the tongue will also be numb.
If the procedure was in the upper jaw, the teeth, lip, and surrounding tissue will be numb or asleep.
Often, children do not understand the effects of local anesthesia, and may chew, scratch, suck, or play with the numb lip, tongue, or cheek.
These actions can cause minor irritations or can be severe enough to cause swelling and abrasions to the tissue.
Please watch and stay close with your child for approximately two hours following the appointment.
