As a Colorado native, Dr. Derek Petersen established his practice in Broomfield, near his childhood home in Boulder.
After graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in Biology and cum laude honors, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2009.
Following graduation, he worked for a year as an associate dentist in a successful practice in the Denver area.
He consequently accepted a position at Plains Medical Center, a Federal Qualified Health Center, serving the eastern plains of Colorado with locations in Strasburg, Limon and Flagler.

It was there he honed his skills in diagnosis, advanced oral surgery and prosthodontics (tooth replacement) and trained inmates in laboratory techniques, which facilitated their rehabilitation and employment upon their release from prison.
