Dr. McWhorter was born and raised as the 6th of 8 children in Texas.
In 1985, he graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta Texas.
He fulfilled a full-time mission, serving 2 years in Osaka, Japan, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After graduating from BYU, he attended dental school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1998.
He then completed a two-year Pediatric Dental Residency at UMKC/Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating in June of 2000.
Every child needs to develop healthy dental hygiene skills, and several studies have shown that people who kick off their early years with healthy oral habits will continue to have healthier habits later in life.
Adults who had good dental habits as children have more confidence later in life, and they also experience fewer issues with their teeth than children who lacked good dental habits.
Of course, as a parent, you know that your child probably isn't the happiest camper when they hear it's time for a dental visit.
Your child will begin getting their baby teeth during the first 6 months of their life.
By age 6 or 7, they'll begin to lose their baby teeth and get their secondary, permanent teeth.
Because of this well-known fact of life, many people share the common misconception that dental health within the first few years isn't that important.
However, this could not be further from the truth.
While your child may lose their baby teeth, if they have poor dental habits during the first few years of life, that's only going to lead to poor dental habits later.
