This is the leading cause of tooth loss.
It's a "silent" disease because it doesn't manifest symptoms in the early stages.
Research data has identified a link between gum disease and heart disease, as well as other health problems.
The bacteria in the gums can enter the bloodstream and cause issues with your overall health.
If the plaque is not removed with thorough brushing and cleaning of all surfaces of the teeth, gums become irritated, inflamed and bleed.
The irritated gum tissue can separate from the teeth and form "flabby tissue" that creates pockets around the teeth.
Bacteria moves into these pockets.
Left untreated the inflammatory process will continue and destroy bone and tissues supporting the teeth.
Periodontal Disease is diagnosed by your dentist and dental hygienist during a periodontal examination.
This will be assessed at your regular dental check up.
What is teeth whitening?
It's a mild bleaching process that removes stains and blends discolorations in teeth.
The over the counter whitening solutions are typically not very effective or ADA approved.
Our office uses two different types of treatment systems that are very effective in achieving nice results.
Aging - the dentin underneath the enamel darkens with age so your teeth will look more yellow or gray.
Trauma from a car accident, sport incident, or any other traumatic tooth injury, can cause a tooth to die or darken.
An immediate denture is a prosthesis that is made ahead of time prior to getting all your teeth removed.
This allows immediate placement after extractions.
This sequence allows a patient never to be without teeth during the healing process.
Once the tissues heal and shrink, adjustments will be made and a reline can be done.
A reline can be done about 3-4 months after extractions.
This is where we add material to the partial or denture to fill any gaps from where the bone has shrunk after healing.
