The mission of RVA Children's Dentistry is to provide an exceptional level of dental care in an environment that not only promotes good dental health and development, but positive emotional development as well. The American Association of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children should visit their dentist every six months for a routine checkup and cleaning.

This allows for early diagnosis of any problems so that they are easier and less expensive to address. Our practice can provide a wide range of dental services. We can typically provide every type of dental service without having to refer you to other specialties. As a dentist specializing in treating children of all ages from infant to young adult, Dr. Carter personally performs a comprehensive group of treatments that address most dental situations your child will encounter.

Parents typically have many pediatric dentist questions. We answer everything from when a child should first see the dentist, to questions about sports mouth guards.

Attempt to schedule appointments as soon as time permits and at your convenience.
Preschool children should be seen in the morning because they tend to be well rested and therefore more cooperative.
This allows our staff to work more leisurely with the child for their comfort.
School aged children that require extensive work should also be scheduled in the morning time for the same reason.
While we understand that missing school is a concern, it can be kept to a minimum when regular dental care is sustained.

During the exam, your child's pediatric dentist will carefully check the health and development of your child's teeth and gums.
X-rays may be necessary as they make it easier for the pediatric dentist to spot decay and make sure teeth are coming in properly.
Even for young children who only have their primary teeth, x-rays play a big role in their dental health.
X-rays are our best way to make sure teeth are coming in properly, that they are healthy and that unseen problems are not cropping up.
Besides helping us find decay, x-rays also enable us to see how wisdom teeth are coming in and help our orthodontists in planning for treatment.
Think of x-rays as a way to find dental problems early, so it is easier and more affordable to treat your child.
Here at RVA Children's Dentistry, we use digital x-rays and take particular care so that your child receives the least amount of exposure.
Dental fears are common, especially in young children.
Additionally, some children with special healthcare needs may be prone to anxiety or have sensory disorders that cause regular dental care to be a very challenging experience for them.
For these patients, sedation dentistry can be the key to helping them get the care they need for strong, healthy teeth.
Our office is designed to cater to kids and their unique needs, and we have everything we need to provide a safe and comfortable experience for your child.
