An exam that incorporates the evaluation of all oral and related structures.
This should be performed at regular intervals and no less than once per year for maintenance of optimal oral health.
Measurement of the bone level and gingival tissue support of each tooth to evaluate one's periodontal health and/or disease.
These measurements should be taken at least once per year for teen or adult patients lacking periodontal disease and more often for those who have been diagnosed with some degree of periodontal disease.

Crowns (often termed "caps") are used to restore severely broken down or root canal treated teeth.
Crowns provide circumferential coverage around an individual tooth to "splint" the remaining tooth structure together to best preserve the tooth structure over the long term.
Some indications for crowns include the presence of large existing restorations that might be failing or broken leaving insufficient healthy tooth structure to restore with a composite restoration.
Crowns are also indicated to "splint" and preserve tooth structure when multiple fractures or cracks are observed in the remaining tooth structure.

Inlays are lab fabricated restorations that restore a portion of a tooth surrounded by healthy tooth structure on most sides.
Inlays (often ceramic) are utilized when more strength is needed than a composite restoration can provide.
Onlays are lab fabricated restorations that restore a larger portion of missing tooth structure including a portion of the external tooth structure (often referred to as cusps).
If significant tooth structure is missing (including one or more cusps), an onlay (often ceramic) may be the ideal restoration if there is sufficient remaining healthy tooth structure to ensure a predictable long term prognosis.
