You can easily prevent tooth decay by brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, seeing your dentist for teeth cleaning and checkups, and avoiding foods that are high in sugar.
The combination of bacteria and food causes tooth decay.
A clear, sticky substance called plaque that contains bacteria is always forming on your teeth and gums.
As the bacteria feed on the sugars in the food you eat, they make acids.
The acids attack the teeth for 20 minutes or more after eating.
Over a period of time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay.

A bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap - these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth - and a false tooth/teeth in between.
These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.
Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.
Dental bridges can last 5 to 15 years and even longer.
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, it is not unusual for the life span of a fixed bridge to be over 10 years.

Despite improvements in dental care, millions of Americans suffer tooth loss - mostly due to tooth decay, gingivitis (gum disease), or injury.
For many years, the only treatment options available for people with missing teeth were bridges and dentures.
But, today, dental implants are available.
Dental implants are replacement tooth roots.
Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.
Improved speech: Dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that your teeth might slip.

Dental cleanings involve removing plaque (soft, sticky, bacteria infested film) and tartar (calculus) deposits that have built up on the teeth over time.
Your teeth are continually bathed in saliva which contains calcium and other substances which help strengthen and protect the teeth.
While this is a good thing, it also means that we tend to get a build-up of calcium deposits on the teeth.
This chalky substance will eventually build up over time, like limescale in a pipe or kettle.
Usually it is tooth coloured and can easily be mistaken as part of the teeth, but it also can vary from brown to black in colour.
