Dr. Sonal Patel Maru is dedicated to helping you have a fun as well as an effective orthodontic experience. By choosing to wear braces, you are taking a positive step in improving your overall dental health and comfort. Our office serves Glastonbury, CT and the surrounding cities.
Services
Dr. Sonal Patel Maru earned her doctorate of dental medicine (DMD) from Boston University School of Dental Medicine.
She did additional training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York before starting her Orthodontic residency program at St. Barnabas Hospital in affiliation with Columbia University.
During her training, she was fortunate to have had the opportunity to treat many challenging cases in a community that is underserved.
In addition, she participated in multidisciplinary craniofacial conferences at Columbia University.
Our goal at Glastonbury Orthodontics is to make your experience a positive one.
At the first visit, we will spend time reviewing your medical/dental history and do a clinical exam in order to determine whether or not treatment is indicated.
We will also spend time talking to you about your concerns and goals as far as your teeth are concerned.
If we decide that the timing is right to begin treatment, we will start by taking additional diagnostic records.
These will usually include x-rays, photographs of your teeth and face, as well as plaster study models.
Long appointments, when the initial appliances are placed, are usually scheduled in the morning.
We understand that your time is valuable and we will attempt to schedule times that are convenient for you.
Initial placement of braces can take 1-2 hours and are best done in the morning when patients are fresh and we have the ability to spend the extra time to ensure their comfort.
However, regular adjustment appointments can be scheduled after school.
Adult appointments are available early and later in the day to accommodate work schedules.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends an orthodontic screening for children by the age of 7 years.
At age 7 the teeth and jaws are developed enough so that the dentist or orthodontist can see if there will be any serious bite problems in the future.
Most of the time treatment is not necessary at age 7, but it gives the parents and dentist time to watch the development of the patient and decide on the best mode of treatment.
When you have time on your side you can plan ahead and prevent the formation of serious problems.
In order to have a healthy smile, your child needs teeth and jaws that are properly aligned.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that your child get a check-up with an orthodontist at the first recognition of the existence of an orthodontic problem, but no later than age 7. Some orthodontic problems may be easier to correct if they're found early.
It gives us the opportunity to recommend the appropriate treatment at the appropriate time.
While orthodontic treatment most often begins between the ages of 9 and 14, some children's orthodontic problems can benefit from earlier treatment.
