Before becoming an orthodontist, Dr. Stephen T. Hicks practiced as a restorative dentist for ten years. His experience provides him with extensive knowledge in general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry-all of which are vital to our orthodontic practice. Adding to our expertise, Dr. Bancroft McMurphy is a trained periodontist (gum specialist) and orthodontist.

Due to his father's position as an engineer with Exxon, Dr. Hicks moved to California during high school and graduated from Slidell High School in 1972.
He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of New Orleans and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at LSU Dental School.
After dental school, Dr. Hicks joined the US Navy and provided his excellent services to our country's bravest.
In 1984, Dr. Hicks moved to Mobile, Alabama and opened his private practice in general dentistry.

He also served as the President of the Mobile Area Dental Society.
Despite the fact that he spends most time providing orthodontic care for children and adolescents, his dual training gave him tremendous experience in the orthodontic treatment of adults, including those who have experienced tooth loss and gum disease.
