A lifetime of healthy habits includes a healthy mouth.
It is recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA) that regular dental visits helps to improve your overall dental health.
Visiting your dentist at least twice a year helps to catch any problems early on and reduce the risk of more serious issues.
Even with having great dental habits, you are not able to eliminate all the bacteria and plaque that builds up over time.
Do not worry, having regular dental cleanings helps to remove these issues.
Cosmetic bonding is one way to fix a chipped tooth.
Bonding is a process where your natural teeth are fused with a strong material such as porcelain or resin to fix a chipped tooth, change the color, or change the shape of your tooth.
Also known as composite fillings.
To replace the tooth structure that must be removed due to a cavity, a composite resin is used.
This composite resin is strong enough to be used on both front and back teeth.
Composite fillings have become the standard, replacing amalgam fillings, for fillings because it blends in more naturally with your teeth.
Keep in mind that plaque is always forming on your teeth but if this film of bacteria is not removed by brushing/flossing your teeth, then the bacteria can cause inflammation of your gums.
When your gums become inflamed, they will start to pull away from the teeth and form pockets.
As plaque is always forming, the plaque will now buildup in these pockets and can not always be cleaned with a regular cleaning.
If the gum disease is not treated, it could lead to bone and tooth loss.
If gum disease is caught early and hasn't damaged the areas under your gumline, then a regular cleaning with your dentist will be adequate.
A tooth that is severely decayed, damaged, or has an abscessed can be saved with a root canal (endodontic therapy.)
To save your tooth, the nerves of the tooth and those within the tooth's canals are removed, cleaned, and replaced with a rubber-like material.
The tooth will then have a temporary filling placed that will need to be restored with a crown in the near future.
