When it comes to pulling teeth, surgeons often cut the gum (aka raise a flap) to gain access to the underlying bone and teeth.
There is a belief in the surgical community that a large flap (a long cut in the gum) heals at the same time as a small flap (a short incision in the gum).
Therefore, it seems acceptable to many to raise a larger flap to better observe the field of operation.
It is true that a large flap heals at the same time as a small one.
But, during the healing process, the amount of discomfort with a larger flap is more than a short one.
Your Children May not Need Braces if you act on time.
When children are growing their adult teeth, starting from about age 5, quite often there is inadequate space in the mouth to accommodate all the present teeth.
This will lead to crowding and misaligned teeth.
In such instances, the dentist can pull the baby teeth at the right time to make room for the larger permanent teeth to grow in straight.
This simple, little used technique can save the working mom and dad thousands of dollars in unnecessary braces.
What methods of sterilization do you employ in the office?
We do heat sterilization of our hand pieces and instruments.
After we rigorously clean the hand pieces and the instruments, we heat them in an oven to kill any germs they may contain.
We also have a third party monitoring of our sterilization to assure the safety of our patients.
What are implants?
Dental implants are metal screws of various sizes that are inserted in the gum and the underlying tissues.
A tooth shaped crown is then fastened to the screw.
A dental implant is a titanium "root" used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth.
It has the general shape of a tooth root and is placed inside the jaw bone, just like the lost tooth it is intended to replace.
Dental implants can be used to support tooth shaped crowns, bridges-a series of teeth in a row connected together, or dentures-removable prostheses to replace missing teeth.
They can also be used for tooth movement in orthodontics.
