Services
The mission of Portage Pediatric Dentistry is to help our patients have a positive dental experience and outlook when it comes to their oral health.
We welcome parents to be involved in all aspects of their child's dental appointment.
It is a privilege for us to be a part of a child's life, no matter how small.
We celebrate a child's triumphs: getting rid of a pacifier or no longer sucking their thumb, being able to take x-rays for the first time, having a no-cavity check-up, and when a child comes in for an appointment very nervous but overcomes their fear, does a great job, and is so proud of themselves.
We recommend regular dental examinations before serious problems develop.
At about the age of 12 months, children should have their first dental examination.
There could be instances such as injuries, decay, or congenital problems which would require even earlier visits.
This initial visit is also very important so that your child has an established dental home in case future trauma or concerns arise.
We also utilize this visit to talk to you as the parent and make sure good home oral and dietary habits are being established.
Our office, as well as the The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a "Dental Home" for your child by one year of age.
Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.
A cleaning and polishing of your child's teeth followed by a fluoride application will be done.
Dental X-rays are taken, if necessary, to ensure a thorough examination followed by oral hygiene instructions to emphasize proper oral health care.
Please call our office at (269) 323-8016 to schedule a dental appointment for your child.
We try our best to accommodate you and your child's schedule as much as possible.
Please contact our office at least 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel or change your child's appointment.
This will allow us to accommodate another child who may be in need of urgent care.
We reserve the right to discontinue dental care for those patients who repeatedly cancel or fail to keep appointments.
If your child is being accompanied by someone other than a parent, Michigan Law requires our office to obtain legal consent to treat you child.
