If you have an area where you are missing a tooth, your dentist can close - or bridge - the gap in your smile with a dental bridge.
A dental bridge is a false tooth (called a pontic) that is held in place by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap.
How is a bridge attached?
The attachment procedure usually takes two or three appointments to complete.
At the first appointment the teeth on either side of the gap are prepped by removing a portion of the enamel and dentin.
Since the bridge must be fabricated very precisely to ensure correct bite and to match the opposing teeth, impressions of the teeth are taken and sent to a local lab where the bridge will be constructed.
