Welcome to New Canaan Pediatric Dentistry, where Dr. Anna Simonis and her excellent team are dedicated to your child's healthy smile. Dr. Anna looks forward to developing a strong partnership with your family, and strives to deliver a pleasant and positive dental experience. Our spacious office is outfitted with all the latest technology to provide you with excellent care and efficient, family-friendly service.

The cheerful and fun waiting room has activities and games for kids, a beverage and coffee bar, and wireless Internet access. It is important to take care of a child's first teeth, their primary teeth, because they aid in speech development, allow food to be properly chewed, and maintain space for permanent teeth. It is also important to develop good lifelong dental habits early on.

Dr. Anna received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 2002. During her education at Columbia, Dr. Anna led her peers as their Class President for three years, and she delivered the Salutatorian speech at graduation.

Tooth-colored fillings are the most lifelike material used to fill cavities.
Composite fillings can be done in one visit.
Once the decay is removed, the tooth is filled with this composite material that hardens immediately after placement.
If the inner chamber of the tooth, known as the dental pulp, is invaded by the cavity, it will gradually deteriorate and become infected.
The root canal process involves removing the infected pulp, cleaning out the chamber and roots (if needed), and filling the chamber and/or canals with a material that will help restore the tooth until it is time for in to normally exfoliate ( fall out on its own naturally).
Local anesthesia refers to a topical and/or injected anesthetic that will affect only the targeted area for a brief period of time to minimize or eliminate sensation or pain in that specific "localized" area during a dental procedure.
Nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as "laughing gas, " is an effective and safe sedation agent that is inhaled through a mask that fits over your child's nose.
Mixed with oxygen, nitrous oxide allows the patient to breathe normally through their nose, and within minutes they should start to feel the effects.
It is recommended that a child have their first dental check-up by the age of 1. Informing your child about their first dental visit is very helpful.
At your child's first visit, we will review the medical/dental health history form with you.
We will get to know your child and help them to feel comfortable in the office by explaining what will happen during their visit, and showing them the tools and instruments we will use to help keep their smile healthy.
We encourage parents to accompany their child during their visit.
Avoid hard or sticky foods such as "hard tack" candies for a least 24 hours as chewing on these types of foods can loosen or damage a restoration.
Never chew on ice.
Carefully follow all guidelines provided by our office, and, most importantly, practice good oral hygiene.
Additional instructions following various types of treatment are listed below.
