Dr. Anthony G. Johnson has been practicing pediatric dentistry since 1998.
In 2003, he opened Johnson Pediatric Dentistry, and has been providing optimal dental care to children in Bowie, Hyattsville and the surrounding areas ever since.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from S.U.N.Y.
College at New Paltz and received his Doctorate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery.
Following dental school, Dr.
J. completed a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Your treatment plan will include a breakdown of all applicable fees, and we will inform you of all costs before treatment is administered.
For your convenience, we accept cash, American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover credit cards.
Third-party financing is also available through CareCredit.
Payment is expected at the time treatment is rendered, unless special arrangements have been made prior to your appointment.
Additionally, we will submit all insurance claims for you for your convenience.
Your child won't keep his or her first teeth forever, but that doesn't mean those tiny pearly whites don't need conscientious care.
Maintaining your child's dental health now will provide health benefits well into adulthood, as primary (baby) teeth serve some extremely important functions.
For one thing, primary teeth serve as guides for the eruption of permanent (adult) teeth, holding the space into which these new teeth will erupt.
The crowns (tops) of the permanent teeth actually push against the roots of the baby teeth, causing them to resorb, or melt away.
Along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, we recommend that a child's first dental visit be scheduled by his/her 1st birthday.
It is very important to make the first visit as positive and enjoyable for the child as possible.
We want your child to enjoy getting to know our doctor and staff and be comfortable at all times.
A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits.
Let the child know that the doctor and staff will explain everything in detail and will answer any questions he/she has.
A toothbrush with soft bristles and a small head, especially one designed for infants, is the best choice for infants.
Brushing at least once a day, at bedtime, will remove plaque bacteria that can lead to decay.
To prevent dental problems, your child should see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, usually between 6 and 12 months of age, certainly no later than his/her first birthday.
Pediatric dentistry is a dental specialty that focuses on the oral health of young people.
Following dental school, a pediatric dentist has two to three years additional specialty training in the unique needs of infants, children and adolescents, including those with special health needs.
