We will try to make every visit and procedure as comfortable and pain-free as we can. Whether you need a little "extra numbing" or a mild sedative in advance, we will be happy to provide that for you. We offer the convenience of early or late appointment times and occasional Saturdays. Since we are not a high-volume clinic, we can reserve our time specifically for each individual patient.

This gets you in on time and out on time. Our staff is knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of our office; so whenever you call, you will talk to a real person who can answer your concerns, even after hours. You can be confident that in our over 30 years experience providing dental care in Marion, Ohio, we have developed our own techniques to acheive long-lasting dental work that looks and feels like it belongs.

We support any of our work for 12 months for adjustments, repairs, and follow-up. We are happy to see new patients. We invite you to call and schedule an appointment or a complimentary consultation.
Services
Hi, I'm Dr. Schmelzer and that's me in the picture with my Boykin spaniel, Charlie.
I started my practice from scratch here in Marion, Ohio in 1980 shortly after graduating from Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry.
My practice expanded to Morrow County when I practiced in Mt Gilead for about 10 years in addition to my Marion practice.
Things got to be a little too busy to be in both places, so I merged the two offices into our current one.
I perform almost all areas of dentistry, from white fillings, crowns, cosmetics, dentures, root canals, dental cleanings and preventive.
The first step is to choose a good toothbrush.
You always want to use a soft brush with a small head.
A soft brush is hard enough to remove plaque and soft enough not to damage your teeth or gum.
The next issue is to choose a good toothpaste.
In general any toothpaste that contains Fluoride will do the job, unless you have a special need that is determined by your dentist.
Two of the best brands of toothpastes are Colgate Total and Crest Multicare.
Hold the brush with a 45 degree angle toward the teeth and the gum.
Making the wrong choice for teeth bleaching can at best be a frustrating waste of time and money, or at worst be a painful experience from bleaching sensitivity.
A teenager wanting brighter teeth for the prom does not need the same product as a 60 year old adult with aging, yellowing teeth.
At our office we WANT you to have a successful whitening experience.
We treat bleaching with the same degree of attention and followup as we do with any other procedure whether it is a root canal, a bridge, or even dentures.
A crown (cap) is a restoration that is placed on teeth that have lost a lot of their structure.
There are many different types of crowns, full porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, full metal crowns.
Your dentist will explain the advantage and disadvantage of each kind for you.
The process of making a crown includes many steps that start in our office with preparing the teeth and taking impressions from the tooth/teeth involved.
There are multiple steps and different technicians work on the mold to fabricate a crown or bridge.
Different from all other dental web sites, our FAQ is NOT prepared by one or two doctors.
What we have done is to find the best answers for FAQ.
Then we organized it here for you.
For example, if you have a question about root canal treatments we guide you to the American Academy of Endodontics FAQ section, so instead of getting your answer from an individual doctor, you will get it from the most reputable reference for root canal treatment issues in the world!
All the answers given are for general information only.
