It also makes you appear friendly and improves self-confidence.
Because your smile has such a strong influence on how others perceive you, and how you feel about yourself, Dr. Sokol takes great care to preserve your natural smile by enhancing the color, shape, and contour of your teeth when restoring your smile with tooth colored dental resin fillings.
In years past, dentists restored tooth decay by placing amalgam fillings.
These restorations are made of a variety of dark metals, including mercury, which can be toxic.
For years, dental bridges (or crown and bridge systems) have successfully replaced missing teeth.
For years, dental bridges have successfully replaced missing teeth.
Bridges are prosthetics composed of one or more teeth in a row, attached to crowns on each end.
Traditionally, the crowns on a bridge are placed onto healthy teeth, thus stabilizing the bridge.
Today, you can opt for an implant-retained bridge.
Your bridge would be attached to one or two implant posts, secured in your jaw.
Dr. Sokol can help you determine which type of stabilization is best for your bridge.
Tooth decay, chips, and fractures are often repaired by a dental filling.
But when damage compromises a tooth's structure and strength, a dental crown may be necessary to protect the tooth from breaking apart and/or falling out.
Dental crowns are the ideal restoration after a root canal treatment.
Crowns may also be indicated for a patient who has been grinding their teeth resulting in excessive wear.
Crowns are porcelain or metal caps made to fit over a tooth.
As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Sokol prefers to place porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns because they appear white and look natural.
You may even develop a stronger sense of taste!
Furthermore, replacing missing teeth will make your smile look more attractive.
To replace more than one or two teeth, Dr. Sokol may recommend a denture or partial.
Dentures replace all teeth on the upper or lower arch, and partials replace a few missing teeth on the upper or lower arch.
Modern dentures and partials are more natural looking, comfortable, and more durable than their predecessors.
In fact, these prosthetics can be secured to dental implants.
You know that you need a dental cleaning on a regular basis.
For some patients, that means every six months, and for some it means more frequent visits.
If you have not had a cleaning in the last year, or if you've developed signs of gum disease, you may need more than a traditional cleaning.
As the leading cause of tooth loss for American adults, gum disease is no small matter.
According to statistics, 80% of all adults over 35 years of age have some form of gum disease.
Left untreated, it can lead to serious diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and even premature babies.
