Root canals help save teeth that are infected.
It is a procedure that is done when there is an infection inside a tooth.
This is often caused by untreated cavities that have been infected by bacteria or even injuries.
I am proud to provide my patients with the best in dental technology, treatment options and patient comfort.
It is my pleasure to address all your endodontic questions and concerns.
The procedure will be performed using local anesthesia.
There are usually no restrictions after the procedure concerning driving or returning to work.
A doctor is available for consultation at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.
Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician.
Usually, an X-ray will identify that a blockage exists in the canal which is preventing access, treatment, and correction of the problem which can only be accessed by treating the root tips directly.
During surgery, the root end is identified in the bone and a small amount of it (about 3mm) is shaved off (an apicoectomy).
The root end is then prepared and a filling placed to seal the canal to prevent leakage and further contamination.
Digital Radiography is replacing conventional dental x-rays and provides several benefits to patients.
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures with well over 14 million performed every year.
This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.
Endodontic (root canal) surgery can be used to locate fractures or hidden canals that do not appear on x-rays but still cause pain in the tooth.
Damaged root surfaces or the surrounding bone may also be treated with this procedure.
The most common surgery used to save damaged teeth is an apicoectomy or root-end resection.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may alter the normal treatment, such as a severe mobility issue or special needs.
Of course, medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, will be addressed on the medical history form and discussed with you prior to treatment.
Please inform the office if you require antibiotics before dental treatment for heart conditions or joint replacement.
If your previous dentist has taken recent x-rays (within 6-months), you may request that they forward them to our office.
