Dr. Grella graduated summa cum laude from UCLA and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry.
His father was a Navy man and his grandfather was a Marine, so following in the military tradition of his family, Dr. Grella joined the Navy Dental Corps upon finishing dental school.
He went to Officer's School in Newport, Rhode Island and then completed a one-year residency at the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton.
