Durham Dental
If a smile is the prettiest thing you can wear, Dr. Stephen Durham and his staff have given me a stunning new wardrobe! During my consultation with Dr. Stephen Durham, I knew that I had found the right home for my dental needs. Everyone is so highly trained, knowledgeable and thoughtful. To say the least, my expectations were exceeded and I was provided the ultimate care.

With oral sedation, you will feel relaxed and sleepy but completely aware of your surroundings. You can respond to Dr. Durham and his assistants with no problem. The effect of oral sedation wears off quickly, but you still need to arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home. Potential sedatives include diazepam, lorazepam, midazolam, and triazolam.

Dr. Durham will let you know which pill he prescribes and provide instructions for taking it. Losing your teeth to trauma or dental disease can be devastating. Not only do you lose full functionality of your mouth, but you feel self-conscious having a gap in your smile.
Services
Dr. Durham has been interested in the practice of dentistry since a young age.
He received his bachelor's degree from Clemson University and achieved his dream of becoming a dentist when he earned his dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine.
Upon graduating, he moved back to his home town in the upstate of South Carolina where he opened his first dental practice.
After years of visiting beautiful Beaufort he decided to relocate and open a new state-of-the-art dental practice in the area, in order to provide the southern United States with the latest dental products, skills and technology available today.
Dental anxiety can often cause patients to put off going to the dentist, but that's no longer necessary.
As gentle as Dr. Durham is, just the thought of a needle is too scary for some patients.
So, we offer oral sedation.
The process is safe and simple.
We'll provide you with a pill to take one hour before your visit.
This will relax you enough to allow us to provide all your treatment in comfort.
You will be safely monitored throughout your appointment.
Many patients find this type of treatment to be especially helpful if you need a lot of work done and don't want to make multiple visits.
Cosmetic dentistry is about presenting your best self to the world.
Having a reason to smile, and making others want to smile back.
If you see flaws in your smile you want to correct, we can help you brighten your world with veneers-super-thin porcelain coverings that eliminate stains, discoloration, and misshapen teeth.
They cover chips and even out the toothline, balancing your smile.
The porcelain is so much like tooth enamel, no one will be able to tell the difference!
Patients with misshapen teeth, unsightly gaps, or deep discoloration might want to consider porcelain veneers.
In the last few years, research has shown that Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) medications such as Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, and Celexa may cause clenching and grinding of the teeth in patients who have never done this before and will increase these behaviors (both frequency and intensity) in those known to clench or grind their teeth.
This side effect is relatively unknown to physicians, although we continue to educate them when we can.
If your jaw pain / headache symptoms started a few weeks to a month or two after you started taking one of these medications, we would suggest you alert your physician to this, as the symptoms could well be related to the drugs.
Recent studies have made it clear that gum disease is not only an oral issue.
It's been discovered to affect a lot more than just gums.
In a healthy mouth, bacteria are kept separate from the rest of your body.
But if you have periodontitis, a serious gum infection, it can open up a door to your bloodstream, putting you at increased risk for heart disease, stroke, bacterial endocarditis, and even premature birth in pregnancy.
It's very important to prevent or immediately treat such a condition before it affects the rest of your body.
