A dental implant is a surgical device designed to replace a missing tooth.
It is an artificial tooth root that is embedded in the jaw and functions as a natural tooth.
Success or failure of an implant depends on the health and oral hygiene of the patient.
Implants can last as long as 15 years or more according to studies.
Oral implants have a very high level of success.
Along with restoring your smile, a dental implant has advantages to oral hygiene, as well.
The implant functions as a natural tooth, such as for eating.
A dental crown is a way to repair a damaged tooth by placing a cap over it.
It may be recommended if you have a tooth with a cavity too large to fill, your tooth is cracked, broken, weakened, or has been severely worn down.
This allows you to keep the tooth without risking further damage when you use it to eat.
Getting a dental crown not only restores your smile, but will help keep your teeth healthy.
If you don't get a crown when recommended, the tooth could become more badly damaged, it could become infected, and it could affect nearby teeth, leading to more serious dental health problems.
Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth.
They can be partial dentures, which replace a limited number of teeth, or full dentures, which replace all of the teeth.
Unlike your natural teeth, dentures are removed from the mouth for cleaning and to allow you to clean your gums and tongue.
However, when fitted and worn properly, they look just like your natural teeth and can be used just as you would your natural teeth.
Full dentures are used to replace all of your teeth, both in your upper and lower jaws.
A smile is one way people can reveal their personality to the world.
So when a smile is crooked or teeth are crowded, they may not want to show their beautiful smile.
There are lots of reasons that your teeth may be crooked or overcrowded, but they don't have to stay that way.
There are options to give you a smile that reflects your inner beauty.
Traditional metal braces have been the standard for a long time, but they can make you self-conscious while you have them until your teeth are put in place.
More than 35 million Americans are missing either all of their upper teeth or all of their lower teeth, and to restore full functionality and a great smile, many of those individuals have opted to undergo all-on-4 dental implants.
If you haven't heard of this relatively new technology, it involves replacing all uppers or lowers with just four dental implants, and it's a much more stable replacement than dentures.
Dentures can slip and cause inconvenience and embarrassment, while implants are strongly anchored, because they actually are joined with the bone in your mouth.
