Patients may need a crown for a variety of reasons.
Common reasons we might place a crown include fixing a fractured tooth, restoring a tooth with a large cavity, or protecting a tooth after a root canal.
Crowns are used when a large part of the tooth is missing or damaged-which replaces the missing tooth structure.
In the case of missing teeth, crowns are also used to replace those teeth as part of a dental implant.
Before a crown is placed on a tooth, the dentist first prepares and shapes the existing tooth, a process that allows it to fit precisely to the natural tooth and provide a strong restoration.
