Falmouth Pediatric Dentistry
Since 1976, Falmouth Pediatric Dentistry has been a full-service practice caring for children of all ages. We believe that each of us can have a lifetime of healthy oral hygiene-if we start with proper dental habits as children. We take the time to educate each of our patients on the benefits of proper brushing and flossing techniques. Investing in a solid foundation can help your children avoid costly interventions in the future.

Above all, we are friendly and compassionate professionals. We are specially trained and devoted to helping young children feel good about seeing the dentist and taking care of their teeth. We strive to provide the highest level of dental care through a combination of love, gentleness, efficiency, prevention and mutual respect among child, parent and professional.
Services
After growing up in South Portland, Dr. John graduated from Gordon College in Massachusetts, received a Master's in Education from the University of Akron, and began his career in teaching and coaching basketball and soccer.
This was the foundation of his exceptional ability to relate to children when he followed in the footsteps of his father, also called Dr. John Willis, who founded Falmouth Pediatric Dentistry in 1976.
After four years in dental school at SUNY Buffalo, Dr. John (the son) completed a two-year residency in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
From a child's first visit till "graduation" to adult dental care, we strive to make each visit to Falmouth Pediatric Dentistry as pleasant and comfortable as possible, while using the latest technology and techniques to start your child on the road to dental health for life!
Regular checkups starting at age one and continuing every six months through adolescence, with professional cleanings, advanced diagnostics, and expert examination by our dentists.
We offer a convenient location and a comfortable, relaxed environment for our young patients.
We support the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's recommendation to schedule a child's first dental visit by his or her first birthday.
Our doctors and staff focus on making the first visit as positive and comfortable as possible, in order to build trust and put the child at ease for future visits.
We'll explain everything in detail, answer any questions, and encourage your child to discuss any fears or anxiety.
We suggest that parents not make a big deal out of the visit, and avoid using words that could cause unnecessary fear, such as "needle" or "drill."
On each subsequent visit, we take the time to make your clild's visit enjoyable and to answer all his or her questions.
Why is it so important to keep primary teeth healthy, if the child will one day lose them and get their permanent adult teeth?
Healthy baby teeth preserve space for permanent teeth to erupt, helping limit the need for braces in the future.
Decayed teeth can be painful, and represent a source of infection that could become a significant health concern.
No one wants to have a toothache or an abscessed tooth.
The American Dental Association states that sedation dentistry is a safe and effective way to help children relax-especially those with dental anxiety or having a hard time sitting still-so they can receive dental restorations.
However, before using any type of sedative or anesthetic medication, we always review your child's health history and current medications.
Nitrous oxide or "laughing gas" is administered with a mixture of oxygen through a hood that sits on the child's nose.
The child will be relaxed, but is never fully sedated.
