Dr. Mary Alice grew up right here in Mauldin, SC and was a proud graduate of Mauldin High School.
After leaving Mauldin, she made a stop in Columbia, SC to receive her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of South Carolina, and in Charleston, SC to obtain a Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina.
During college and dental school Dr. Mary Alice served in many leadership roles including Class President of her dental school class all four years.
After dental school, Dr. Mary Alice worked as a general dentist treating children, working in a free clinic, delivering dental care abroad, and spending time in the Florida Dept of Health before making the decision to return to school to specialize in pediatric dentistry.
Nerve treatments on primary teeth are not the same as root canals on permanent teeth and we are trained to perform these "baby" root canals on young patients.
We'll hold your child's hand every step of the way.
The nerve of the tooth is also called pulp tissue.
When bacteria from a cavity penetrates into the pulp tissue, it becomes necessary to remove a portion of the pulp in order to prevent further pain and infection.
Removal of pulp tissue (pulpotomy) is done quickly and comfortably.
A medicament is then placed and the tooth is restored with a stainless steel crown for best results.
We have missed all of you so much and we are so excited to get back to the office!
Things will be a little different and we ask that you are patient with us as we work hard to get everyone scheduled and taken care of as quickly and safely as possible.
If you had an appointment scheduled, we will be reaching out to you, so you do not need to call our office unless you are experiencing pain and/or discomfort.
In order to limit the number of people in the office, please have one parent or guardian accompany only those children with scheduled appointments.
First of all, thank you for trusting us to care for your child!
We do not take this responsibility lightly and we will always work hard to provide the highest quality care in an encouraging, exciting environment!
In order to put your child at ease, our staff will create an upbeat and fun atmosphere while delivering high quality dental care and education.
In addition to our colorful chairs and fun activities you will see pictures of kids from our neighborhood as well as kids from Dr. Mary Alice's trips around the world.
Pediatric dentists specialize in treating the unique needs of children.
They have two to three additional years of training to learn more about treating children.
They also focus more attention on educating patients and parents about preventative care to help children avoid complications such as tooth decay, infection, speech problems, and cosmetic issues.
A check-up every six months is recommended in order to prevent cavities and other dental problems.
However, due to some circumstances, you make need to be seen more frequently, in which, your pediatric dentist would tell you how often visits should be.
